Default Which 3.90 gears?

I've got an 02 ss with 405rwhp that is a dd and some road racing. Not planning on dragging the car. On a recent rr outing it sure needed more gear out of the corners then the 3.42's, and could have benefitted several places on the track getting it up in the power band for the h & c swap we've done.

I do NOT want gear whine, and I'm hearing the 3.90's would be stronger then the 4.10's.

Where can I get a set of quiet gears and which brand? (I know set up is part of the key).

I'm guessing your coming out of the corner and the engine is far below peak torque. Not to sound like an *** but have you tried dropping down one gear ?
Anyway back to your question, Motive is the only company I know of that make a 3.90 gear set for our 7.5 10 bolt. I have them and I'm quite happy with their performance, but I do encounter a slight bit of whine.

Not an *** ? at all-very good ?.

I could go through the technical part of the course (short/corners) in 2nd and push it right to the shift point at 6K. I did not dare downshift to 1st as that would cause more problems.

A steeper gear would help in several places as there were many that I could just get into 3rd and it was time to downshift again. The cam in the car comes on well after 3500rpm, but below that is a dog.

I've thought about 3.73's and/or 4.10's but it seems the 3.90's would be the best choice for what we do, I just want as much strength as we can get with this baby rear end, drivability, mpg for dd and low gear noise.

The 3.90's are going to raise your rpm in gear by approx 200. In comparison the 4.10's will add approx 300 rpm at any speed over the 3.42's. I know it doesn't sound like much but it does increase acceleration nicely and it should help you get to and keep the engine in it's powerband.

If I made it to the track more often I would consider the 4.10's, but with a limited budget I'm limited to the number of track days, better mpg and hopefully longer gear life. 3.73's or 3.90's would fit my bill nicer imo.
