Question U-Joint Replacement Rule of Thumb?

Didn't find this, which should be added to the sticky -- what is the U-Joint Replacement Rule of Thumb? How do you know if they should be changed, maybe some pics of worn ones Vs. serviceable ones?

TIA!

Any time I have had problems with a U-Joint in any car it has been noticable. If its the front, the shifter will shake and vibrate a lot and you will feel the rear vibrate and also hear a clunk when putting it into gear.

Tonight I jacked my 98 Z up and made sure I didn't have any slack in the joints by slowly moving the Drivashaft back and forth and watching for any movement in the joint.

You want no movement turning each side of the joint opposite each other, and you want no seized up feeling either
