Default 3rd gen rear??

Ok so I'm looking at getting an m6 camaro that has a bad rearend. I know to fix it right I need a nine inch or a s60 but I don't has that kind of cash right now.
So my question is will a rear out an 85 camaro work? I know they are similar and that's the cheapest I can find around here because our salvage yards are ridiculous.

Thanks in advance guys

It will bolt in but the brakes are different so you will loose your ABS and traction control. Also the 3rd gen rears are IIRC 2.5 inchs narrower on each side

ok, i have 315s in the back but i think i could make them fit, but i remember reading somewhere that some of the third gen rears had 25 spline rears or something? would this be one of those or would it be 28 spline like factory 4th gens? i know either way its weak but i dont need weaker than weak

pinion will break before the axles do, don't worry about it.

well it will get you down the road, dont beat on it too much or you could look for govlock parts sticking out the rear cover

the 3rd gen rears are 1.5 inches per side narrower. any 82-92, 93-97, 98-02 rear is a direct bolt-in but the width, brakes, and abs options are the difference.

Unless you run 3rd gen offset wheels, your tires/wheels will likely rub, they will also tuck under the fender about an inch more than stock.

You could run adapters but that is another added expense.
