Default HELP!! What carrier?

So i want to upgrade my 3.42 gears to 4.10 but i dont know what carrier i have. The thing is i cant look at the door codes because i bought the rear end from a friend with a 98 Z28. The rear end came with a Detroit locker, upgraded axles, and 3.42 gears. Is there any other way to check? Does the locker matter?

the rearend that you bought from a friend with a 98 Z28,is it currently installed in your car or is it 'loose',is it a 3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS + Traction Control ? If it's 3 Channel, removing the cover and looking at the ABS reluctor ring,a narrow ring would indicate 2 Series,a wider ring would indicate 3 series.

The rear end is currently on the car and its a 4-channel. Does adding the detroit locker change the carrier?

I don't know ANYTHING about lockers so I can't help you in that aspect.
Being that you stated 3.42,3.42s' are typically 3 series although 3.42 'thick gears' are available for 2 series.
did the rear come out of a auto or stick ?

It came out of an auto. Im almost positive he had a 2 series stock, but he did a lot of modifications to his rear end.

Based upon the info you've stated/supplied in this thread,it sounds like the rearend you put in your car was originally from the factory a 2.73 2 series rearend that was in a 1998 Z28 automatic and converted to a 3 series locker and 3.42 gears were used.
