Default Gear Decision

This is more of a "what say you" opinion thread...

My cars are usually MAINLY daily drivers. But I occasionally do enjoy a trip to the road course and to the drag strip...

This will be my first venture into a 6spd and definitely the first Camaro I have owned, so I ask...

3.73 or 4.10s ?

I do drive on the highway, and without prior knowledge of how the T56 cruises in 6th on the highway, I want to make sure I keep the RPM's at a reasonable level.

I will keep on searching as I have been, but I want to hear some opinions from people with both gearsets and see what you like and dislike about both gear-sets.

Thanks Guys!

good call! I just got back home and hopped on here and found this...

http://www.wallaceracing.com/gear-speed.php

According to it, with the 6th gear in the M6 being .50, my tires being 26.2" Diameter, and a 4.10 gear ratio, right around 2000rpm should be 75mph.

It all depends on how serious you want to get into drag racing the vehicle. We have a bunch of guys that like to do a little bit of everything but not deep into do anything besides just enjoying their car no matter the venue and stay as low as 3.70 to keep their gas mileage as high as possible also.

Using the link you provided and the specs I came up with this for a 3.70 gear ratio. (2000 RPM 84.26 MPH) (1500 RPM 63.20 MPH) Granted not the best 1/4 mile gear ratio but depending on what road course you are at it might be a decent gear ratio for it.

With that being said the guys/gals that are not concerned with gas mileage and want a little more kick basically have gone with the 4.10 ratio.

A real rear end with 3.73s or 4.10s
I would not put ANY $$$$$ into a 7.625 rear especially owning a 6speed.........been there done that! One trip and 4 passes to the track on DRs and about 5 months of street driving and the teeth were bad on the pinion gear and 5 teeth missing off the ring gear....was fun while it lasted but the money i spent could have gotten me a much better power handling rear...........
