Default torsen differential issue

my 99 ss has started the one wheel peel. i put new bearings in it last summer and wasnt sure how the pinion paddle went in. when i try to kick it sideways, sometimes it will start with both tires spinning but then theres a loud pop or bang noise and its down to one tire fire! does it matter which way that paddle goes in and could that be the cause or do i need a new diff. im thinking about the auburn gear limited slip pro series...can't afford a s60.

there is a preferred 'way' the paddle goes in,but I've installed both ways without a problem.
