Default shim sizes?

So I took the diff cover off and the gears look perfect. My dad is thinking that either the gears werent installed properly (because apparently you the ring and pinion should have a very little play in them and they are completely tight). He thinks they didnt use the proper shims. What size shims should be used? They are for a Detroit Tru Trac carrier and ring and pinion. He also said the pinion nut may have loosened up as well. Are these good guesses? We are going to take it apart next weekend, so hopefully I can learn something about these rears.Any tips, advice, or suggestions are welcomed. Im pasting my first post in here, it has some extra info in it.

Hey guys, I have a 99 camaro ss, has a fairly fresh rebuilt rearend (1200 miles), with a Detroit Tru Trac carrier and detroit 3.73 gears. I changed the diff fluid a couple days ago and shortly after it started howling bad, worse then before fluid changed. I used 50% 75-90 gear lube with lucas heavy duty oil stabalizer and one bottle of gm diff. additive. I drove it around for an hour or so and saw a local ricer so I decided to beat on it. Shortly after the rearend is just howling something fierce. Its very loud outside even. Its deffinately not binding at all, and its pretty quiet until you get above 15 mph and let off the gas or brake. Any idea's or suggestions would be great. And the gears were put in by a professional, I just changed the fluid.

Is that the general concensus is that Lucas doesnt make good product? If so I will stay away from it.

These rear-ends survive fine behind autos with regular old 75/90. Your Auburn may call for a non-syn gear oil I'm not sure.

This is for just the pinion shim with your seal and crush sleeve:
