Unhappy Poor little 10 bolt..

This thing has developed a ton of slack recently. It has always whined in 5th and 6th, but recently it just clunks so badly while driving in all gears and RPMs. It makes the car feel soo sloppy. I began to gather money to rebuild it with some new gears and what not, but after labor I was looking at like $700-$800. I decided not to and look around for some new rears. I've been discussing with many companies about fabbing a 9", and many other options. But I've decided on a Moser 12 bolt. Reason: a friend is selling his low mileage one, with 4.10s, and a spool, ready to bolt in, already broken in for $1500 WITH a chromoly driveshaft. I can't really dump a bunch of money on it right now, and the car will BARELY ever see the track, so I'm not worried about "breaking a 12 bolt"... I will buy a TrueTrac, and some 4 channel axles to convert it to my 4ch car. Hopefully will have it ready in a few weeks, and no more worries of the 10 bolt leaving my stranded.

Anyways, check out this 10 bolt!

A spool isn't very street friendly however.

Oh, and you think that's a lot of slack? Don't look at how much I have on my trailblazer right now

Yeah, like I said, the spool will get replaced with a TrueTrac very soon. I don't drive my car much on the street, except for like 1 mile a day, so it's not bad. And it doesn't look like a ton of slack, but it sure does feel like a ton driving it, and the noise it makes =

Ah crap, missed that part about the truetrac. Sounds like a pretty decent plan then. Just remember you'll need to tune for the 4.10 unless you already have that.

I hear you on the noise. Mine bangs and clunks a lot. When I changed the gear oil I pulled the plug and the oil that ran out was black and full of shiny specs, with little chunks in it. So I just put the plug back and refilled it, crossing my fingers it would hold together a while longer So far I've put 27k miles on it and it still works, except it is starting to whine now too... Can way say ticking time bomb?

With the price of 4-channel axles and new backing plates, a True-Trac, and the labor for the locker install on top of the price for the used 12-bolt, aren't you looking at close to the same price for a new axle set up the way you want it out of the box?

Not completely, because I'm getting a driveshaft with this price, and I'll be able to sell the spool, 3 channel axles, and stock driveshaft. I know it'll be up there, but I'm still saving money.
