8.8 Axle Help!!!
8.8 Axle Help!!! Ok heres a list of the parts used:
Ford Racing 4.10 gears
Ford Racing Carbon Clutch Packs
31 Spline Trac Lok
Alloy USA axles (94-98 width)
New Ford Cross Pin & C Clips
Now to the problem. When I was doing the final assembly I installed the axles, seated the c clips, and tried to install the cross pin....No go. Tapped the pin with a hammer (tapped, not bashed) and still no go. Pulled the c clips and looked at the axles and the pin is hitting the axle about 3/32" in from the end, WTF.
I put a post up on the mustang forums since its a mustang axle build (I guess) and a guy on there said I rebuilt the carrier wrong and added too many shims. I disagree, everything went together way too well to have something wrong. I'm saying that there is a problem with the axles. It seems like the "button" on the axle by the c clip is too thick. I'm going to call Summit tomorrow and ask them, but what do you guys think? I think if I take any shims out of the carrier that the spider gears will be too loose. Everything is tight right now, but a good tight, not a forced tight.

BTW I don't have any stock parts to look at, I built the axle from scratch

Well I called tech support and it turns out that Alloy makes the "button" on the c clip side oversized and is designed to be ground to fit. I should have gone with my gut and just ground them down and I could have had the axle in on Sunday. Oh well I needed lug nuts, and I ordered them last night. Hopefully next weekend I can get the fuel and brake lines run and get a start on the exhaust.
