Max Breaking Power is a relative term. Is the car an Auto or Stick. Street car or Drag car.

The problems with 12 bolts are mostly just noisey gears after several hard launches.

I would say from expereince, if you are under 475 or so you will be ok, if you are on a slick maybe a little less. It will also depend on the gear and the differential itself. If it is spool it will be stronger. If it is a posi, the Eaton HD will likely be the strongest, not sure if there is a Wavetac or S Trak for the 12 bolt yet.

I have one that held 520rwhp, but it did break 3 times. It also did several 1.4s 60fts. That said it is for sale and I have ordered a MWC 9" since the motor is making over 700 fwhp now.

Good luck!

33s are good, that is what I have, I did twist them once, had them replaced.

3.73s are good too, the lower the ratio thicker the teeth. The ones I broke were 4.11s. I have 3.73s now with no issues.

The spider gears will give up with a stick and slicks.

Put an adjustable clutch in it.

My car is at 510rwhp/516rwtq. Original Moser 4.11's never broke, but after a track day with some slicks, they whined like crazy. So loud on the freeway, was pretty hard to talk to a passenger. Took em out and they look just fine, all tolerances were good. Dont know what the cause for the noise was. Replaced them with Richmond 4.10's. No problems now, but I havent been back to the 1/4 mile since. I have been to auto X events and beat on it around Road America though, still ok.

My friend has the Moser with GM gears. NO whine, no break, 9 second car. I have a Moser, richmond gears, howls like there is a full moon out. It howled plenty before I dropped the clutch multiple times at 5k at the track. That was with a full bolt on LT1 that dynoed 276rwhp.

A 12 bolt will be fine for heads/cam street/strip applications and will be slightly more efficient than a 9". If I were to build an all out car, a 9" might be on the list.
