bad bearing?

does anyone know what kind of noise comes from the rear when a bearing goes bad? stock 10 bolt, and recently ive gotten a real strange sound coming from it. I took it to a shop the other day, and they just said the sound was coming from the rear, and that they dont specialize in differentials

Hard to explain but it sounds like a whine or a drone type sound, & is speed proportionate.

Have you figured out what is making the noise? Mine is doing the same thing.

mine turned out to be a bad pinion bearing.... had my local mechanic replace it, and its much better now
