replacing rear ?

replacing rear ? im just gonna try to find a good used rear to replace mine because they want 1200 to rebuild it and since the car basically is just a cruiser i figure that would be ok so a couple q's.i have a 98 with the 273 rear is it ok to get one that has the 342? i have a programmer to reflash so thats not a prob and i know i need to get one with traction control. next one is anyone know of a good place to get one fairly cheap? last but not least how hard is it to swap out the rear ive never done it before it doesnt seem like a big deal but does anyone have a link or know where i can find some kind of install? thanks and sorry for the dumb questions...oh just so nobody burns me up i did a search and couldnt find nothing
Check local craigslist ads or partouts in your area in the classifieds
For a simple cruiser you can also look for open diffs which are super common and dirt cheap
Updating the speedo with a tuner covers the base for different gearing. Only other thing to look for is 3 channel vs 4 channel to keep your ABS/traction control working
3 channel has the sensor in the top of the diff housing, 4 channel has one sensor behind each wheel
Dont be afraid of earlier LT1 axles either. Swap your old brakes over and they're the same. 3rd gen axles have a different backspacing so avoid them unless you want to run spacers. Avoid drum axles unless you are fine with cutting/drilling. Disk brakes wont simply bolt up, but can be made to work
If you're fairly knowledgeable with a wrench and can muscle about 100lbs around, then an axle swap wont be any trouble. For your first time expect about 5 hours to get it done
