Help! Bump/clunk in rearend

Help! Bump/clunk in rearend I have this annoying bump/clunk in the rearend when I go through a parking lot or in stop and go traffic. GM says it normal for it to be there and that if they try to tighten the rearend up it will whine and wear out quicker. I think they are lying.
Has anyone had this before and how did you get rid of it?

I have the same problem. It also clunks when shifting from Reverse to Drive or Park to Reverse. Do you have a torsen rear end? I hear that this is common for those to make those kinds of noises. I plan on checking U-joints and rear end fluid to rule them out before tearing into the posi unit.

All 2001 models with posi have torsen rear ends. GM started using them in 1999 in F-bodies. Before your car wasn't listed in the signature. There are posts everwhere about those units clunking at low speeds. Dealers say they're normal, I am still trying to figure mine out.
I recently had one of the 8" bolts that hold the rear sway bar to the car go bad. i went to tighten everything up and the bolt just keep spinning so i replaced it and all the noise went away.
