Can't believe it! 1 Attachment(s) When i bought my car about one year ago I noticed a semi-loud noise coming from the rear end. I paid little attention to it because one of my buddies said 10 bolts are just noisy... well I bought 4.10s recently and was in the process of disassembling the rear end when I took the carrier out and noticed that the side with the plate with the bearing on it (not sure of the proper name) was completely sheared off! I think I'm pretty lucky it lasted this long. Good thing I ordered the Ratech deluxe kit for all the bearings because they are all shot. |
Seen the same thing happen in a buddys car. have no idea how long he drove it like that haha pretty crazy. |
haha honestly it just sounded like a wheel bearing or something so I wasn't immediately concerned. |
And also I have another question. I took the end plate and the piece that broke off with the bearing to a GM dealership and they said "thats not a stock differential". Well after doing some reading up on it, I found out that its a Torsen carrier and they only came in the 99 F-bodys. So as for my question, is there anybody who knows if I can only get the end plate? Or do I have to buy a whole carrier? |
this is the 4th thread, here on ls1tech,I've seen about that end plate failure. Torsen doesn't supply/sell replacement parts, the most common part needed is the 'paddle' as they're 'lost'. You can obtain that end plate by picking up a used torsen carrier, they typically sell for 100-150,or a scrap torsen carrier that still has an intact end plate but is scrap due to internal gear failure. |
Thanks, sorry I should have used the search :emb: but I looked on ebay and found a nice used torsen. But thanks for the response! |
Never seen that one before. |
The torsen differential was in all 99 up cars except ss and firehawk cars with the optional auburn posi |
