Default gear choice

Iv got a 12 bolt with a 4:10 gear in it. At the moment i'm having a 383 stroker built and am hoping for 600-650 at the tires. Whats a god gear for the street and for the track?

4.10 would be a good gear for that much power. Depends on how much street and how much for track.

The word is at the track you want to go through the traps a few hundred rpm above the power peak for max performance.
There's a good gear calculator at f-body.org
4.10s with a 28 inch tire will get you 132 mph @6500 in 4th gear. Or 4.30s 132@6800

You're probably going to have to wait till the build is done to see what the hp curve looks like before making a final gear choice. 4.10s are probably in the ballpark.

would a 3.73 with the right sized tire be a better choice?

From what I've read, a normally aspirated car works better with higher numerical gears ex 4.10-4.56. From your username are you going to use a supercharger or nitrous? If so it seems most people use lower numerical gears like 3.73s All this info is biased twards maximizing performance at the drags . For street use I don't think it makes a huge difference. You could keep the 4.10s and see how they work and adjust from there.

I've read some very informative posts by member CALL911 on gearing. He's got a procharged 383 M6 making 614 rwhp, perhaps he could give you some advise.
