Default HELP diff fluid change ASAP

Trying to change my diff. fluid for the first time, i have all the bolts off of the cover but for some reason the cover is still on good and tight, why is this? Can i pry it off w/ a flat head screwdriver or is there something other than the 10 bolts holding the cover on? Also once i do get it off, is there anything else a first timer should know about diff. fluid changes? Thanks

GM recommends that you use synthetic gear oil and the additive that you can pick up at your dealer. the cover should come off with a little persuasion of your choice short of destroying the cover

back it up on ramps, take the bolts out and then use a flat head screw driver and just tap it between the cover and twist. always works for me.
oh yea, have a pan under it when you do that and leave the top bolts most of they way in so you dont get flooded

Cake easy job dude, i just got it off, the gasket is going to make the cover stick on so once u take the bottom 7 bolts off, leave the top 3 on loose, i took out the filler plug too just so air can circulate, also have the car up on jacks 2 under the rear axle....took a screw driver and the back of a 3/4" drive wrench to tap the cover loose, HINT: clean off the grime and sand before u remove the cover, i just f*cked that part up and got a grain or two of sand on the gear...easily fixed, but i shoulda known better. Good Luck.
