9" Install Help U-Joint Install
Ok so I just did a search as to how I get my stock u-joint out and someone said to heat it up and melt the plastic retainers out. Someone else mentioned renting a u-joint tool.
Which way is easier?
Also, I have the Nappa 447 u-joint conversion part and it came with a grease fitting, 4 metal clips (?) and some wierd looking clip thing that was a bronze/copper color. What is the correct way to install this thing? anyone got a picture so I don't mess this up too..
I'm so close right now...

heat it and beat it to get it out - just take it to a parts store and let tme press it off. Its pretty easy to screw up the aluminum with a big hammer and it shouldnt cost more then 10-15.00 to press a u-joint on/off. Just make sure they put the retaining clips in the drveshaft, no clips go on the rear end side.

I used a hydraulic press. Heating and beating on aluminum does not sit well with me.
BTW Off topic but did you have to alter your drive shaft length when changing to a 9inch? I am about to put mine in and was just wondering.

I used the stock driveshaft with both my 9" and 12 bolt with no problem. Once you melt the glue the u-joint comes out pretty easy, I have a press here but I have just hammered them off and on many times. One slip with the hammer and you can screw up one of those driveshafts pretty easy though..

I ended up taking to a shop and they did in like 20 minutes. They charged me 30 but that got me to the point where I finished the car up last night so it was worth it.
