ok it will be long but decriptive....does this sound like a bad rear diff?
the noise has now stopped but im now doing 1 leggers......i sat at an interesection...turned right and halfway through the turn i smashed it and it spun instantly and the car didnt go sideways....went back and there was only one mark....the passenger side tire left a mark while the drivers side didnt........so i think my diff is bad.
car is a 2000 camaro with cam and bolt ons.......a ten bolt with a little "play" in it but still fairly good. has 95000 miles.....stock master, new gm slave 2000 miles or so on it....also a mccleod strap drive.....twin unsprung iron disks.......with 2000 on it as well......a dorman pilot bushing was used for clutch install......
so my car sits for a week or so until i drive it since its cold......it wa 30 degrees outside....start her up.....reverese.....then push in clutch.....as im slowing to a stop with the clutch pedal to the floor, as i slow i hear this grinding........it is speed not rev related......i then put in first and let the clutch out a little and push it in again....so starting at 5mph and coasting to a stop.....there is this grinding coming from my shifter and it the noise "stretches" out as the car slows and stops when the car is at a stop......i drove a little and could barely get it to do it again......a week later start driving and same thing......i tested and only does it when i coast to a stop with clutch in and in a gear....it starts probly when the car is at 15 mph or less......if i recall it does it in 1st 2nd an 3rd....it would be stupid to test 4th etc.....i tried taking it from gear when i hear it and going to nuetral with clutch to floor and noise stopseven while doing 5mph or so......no grinding in gears.....everything is 100% except that noise...the car has seen no track time yet
i drove to my buddies house o he could hear it cause he has done several t56 builds......it was about 15 degrees outside and i could barely get it to do it but very very faintly it was still there.......he says it is no way in hell the pilot bushing and is probly in the tailhousing and says that i didnt hear it because of it being colder and thicker fluid......i agree with that but really a 15degree difference outside? id beleive if it was say an 80 degree comparing to 20 degree day but not 15 degrees......any thoughts guys?
