Default 9 in question

i have a 3rd member from a 73 gran torino sport that had a big block 351c. no sure the spline count on the axles but its a 3.70 gear ratio. would it be worth using it and just getting a housing and axles. how much should i expect it to hold hp wise looking for around 500 rwhp. or should i just buy a 3rd member for moser or another vender

The weak link of the stock case 9" is the rear pinion support. It should handle 500 HP with ease but if it breaks I've seen them lock up tight and take out the driveshaft and even the tail shaft of the trans. Its one of those roll of the dice things.

Good luck with Your decision.

Run it. Enjoy the quietness of a FoMoCo gear set-up.

Stock cases are a gamble.....I've seen several stock cases break on 4wd big tire trucks and street/strip cars. Not worth ruining the trans or whatever else is in the way if the case breaks
