Default Changing fluid in Moser 9"

I changed the fluid in my Moser 9". I used 80/90 gear oil and 7oz of additive. I put the additive in first but could only get a little over 2 qts. of gear lub in before it started running out the fill hole. I had the back tires on ramps and thought that may have been the problem so I rolled the car off the ramps, jacked up the driver side of the rear axle and was able to get in another 1/2 qt. before it started running out the hole. I would say I have just a tad shy of 3 qts of fluid total in it. Will that be enough?

3 qts is roughly what a stock niner will hold. You get more or less depending on the angle it sits. If it's sitting at ride height and coming out the hole it's enough. Seen lifted trucks with extreme pinion angles get 5 in them.

When I drained it I got almost 4 qts out. I took the fill plug out first to make sure that it would come out after I drained it and when the fill plug came out almost a qt of fluid came out the fill hole. I havn't changed the fluid since the 9" was installed. I assume the shop filled the rear-end with fluid before it was installed.
Thanks for the reply.

It should only hold approx 3 quarts, as SSellers mentioned. You don't want to jack up the driver side to get it to take more fluid, as you could end up with a leak somewhere. I would remove the fill plug at normal ride height, as let it seep out until it is to the bottom of the fill hole. Bob
