Default Slip Yoke Removal

I need to replace the slip yoke on a driveshaft that i purchased. Im wondering what all is involved in removing it from the Ujoint. Is this something a shop would usually charge for to swap over?

All you have to do is to press out the u joint, you can find U Tube videos on doing it. You can use a bench vise and appropriate sockets if you have a bench vise. A machine shop can indeed swap it out for you, and they will charge you for it. Bob

Just did mine not too long ago when I had to put my spicer u joints in (broke a precision at 105 MPH shift into fourth). The factory U joints are held in with a nylon-like substance. People say don't heat the ears because they will break but I couldn't get the u joint to press without using heat to make the nylon melt out. I used a small camping propane bottle and like a $5 small propane torch you can pick up a lowes. Place the heat right at the center of the u joint for however long it takes (~5-10 minutes) you will here a pop and the nylon will melt out. Grab a Ball joint press rental tool from autozone (hopefully you have one nearby) and while its still warm press out the u joint ends. Ball joint press part number is 27023 about 100 bucks to rent but get that money back when you return it.
