Default 3ch to 4ch computer questions?

Ok, ive read all the stickies. I had a burnt up 3ch rear in my 99 TA(surprising huh?). i found a good 4ch rear from a 02 SS m6 car. I know the gears are different and that will be adjusted in tune. My question is instead of looking for 3ch axles and drilling a hole in the case for the sensor, why cant i retune the ecm or bcm or find a bcm from a 4ch car and swap it out so i have abs and add TC? harnesses tend to be the same for all models as its cheaper to produce.

So in theory, i need a TC switch, a 4ch cars bcm, and have it flashed to my VIN or have my tune adjusted instead of living with no abs and having to look for axles and drill into my rear end.
Anyone have any expericence or lead me in the right direction? seems to easy to be possible.. and my old axles are toast...

I'd have to look at my 4 channel to be sure but they have 2 break lines running to the rear also. the axles are the same just the 4 channel has the prevision for the rings to be pressed on so you can remove them. I would just swap the internals from the 4 channel to the 3 channel housing

Convert the rear, don't try and convert the car. Way more headache with your line of thinking. There are some key elements in your post that tells me you don't have a proper grasp of the differences you face in the chassis. One the abs blocks are different because the number of brake lines or channels are different. Two, you can use 4 channel axles with a 3 channel rear end but not vice versa (no machined shoulder for the pickup wheel) and you can use a 3 channel center with a 4 channel rear (just an unused pickup wheel in the housing but it won't interfere with operation).

ok 1. my rear is toast and cant reuse parts. 2. i swapped my brakes and lines over. 3. no im not drilling a hole in my rear to swap sensor. The rear i got was such a good deal and low miles, i thought i would try and flip it to work. looks like ill live without abs for a bit til i find another 3ch rear.
