Default Starting autocross build

I need help on what gears I should run for an autocross car. Also should I upgrade to a different size rear? My car makes about 350 right now but I'm about to start putting some more money in it at the beginning of next year to get it to 450 to 500.

Thanks for all your help.

The best advice I can give is find someone in your area that autocrosses with a similar car. Rear axle ratios are heavily dependent on what gear(s) you run the course in, tire size and traction and most importantly torque curve.

I don't autocross myself but a bunch of my friends do. They spend more time on tire, spring and shock changes that rear axle ratio changes.

All of my focus is on road course and endurance racing. Wish I could be more help.

Gearing in Autocross is not nearly as critical as tires and shocks. Any good street gear should work. Just keep in mind you are not running drag slicks so if the gears are too low you will just spin them.

Best to ask in the 'road racing' forum of the racing department of this site.

Need some more info- car/transmission/tire size. For the average autocross courses with a 6 speed f-body, 3:42 is close to ideal. Allows you to run most courses in second gear, gets you over 70 depending on your rev limit which should handle most courses. I would go and check out the size of the courses your region runs as this will influence what gear you run.

^^^This sounds about right, but, IF your region runs VERY tight, short straightaway, 'Miata/S2000' style and size courses, you could benefit from 3.73s.

Just FYI; a standard LS1 f body T56 through 3.73s yields the same overall ratios as a 3.42 equipped, C5 Z06's tighter ratio, MN12 T56.
