Default Replacing 2 piece with LS1

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a vague screeching, scratchy noise underneath my car going about 10-15 mph. Originally thought it was tranny related but did some scientific tests by jogging alongside my car with it off and I belive 99.8% sure it's coming from my u-joints. I've got a two piece steel driveshaft + it vibrates slightly at 75ish mph. Misewell pony up the money for a 1 piece aluminum balanced one and call it a day, not to mention the driveline weight savings that'll hopefully help my 3.4 liter gain some extra umph. Also the noise is getting much louder and harsher to the point where I cringe when cruising through a parking lot, people think my car is going to explode ha.

I'm going to replace my pinion seal as it's leaking and do a gear oil change as well. I got an LS1 driveshaft off a member here and cleaned it up today, looks very nice compared to the one I'm going to pull out. As far as I know, it should slide in there without cutting the torque arm down at all (v6's had some extra bracket thingy??) Going to get the rest of my supplies tomorrow and should be getting at it tomorrow night. I'll post pics and thoughts on it later that night.

Now to the questions:
1. It's an open differential, straight gear oil then right and no additive?
2. Mark the pinion nut and count the number of threads showing and get it back to the same position or slightly more than the mark?
3. Locktite the pinion nut and/or/neither endcap u-strap bolts?
4. Any other tips hints welcome!!! It's my daily driver so want to get it done once and done right

While its out, it might be worth pre-emptiest throwing some Lakewood u joints on the new shaft to make sure you don't have the same problem twice

I don't know any answers about the pinion seal stuff, but you'll like the alum d/s with your 3.4 and it will just drop right in. Straight gear oil is fine.

Well I got it in a couple days ago and while it was more of a job than I was expecting, it's in. The torque arm bracket that was mounted to the driveshaft really screwed me over as the upper bolt is incredibly hard to get to. Stupid v6 design...

Nevertheless the squeak is gone! Along with the squeak, I had another noise which I thought was coming from my tranny but it was actually my driveshaft yet again. Did a rear end oil change and everything looks good in there, didn't get around to the pinion seal as it wasn't leaking as bad as I thought. Weighed the old one, ~25lbs. Ls1 shaft, ~12lbs. Didn't notice a difference in weight reduction in the driveline but shifts seem more smoother, precise, and less jerky like it had a shift kit installed and more like an actual car Vibration is still there but overall it feels smoother than it was originally, which it wasn't terrible to begin with

Looking forward to the possible mpg gains
