14 bolt SF in a '75 C10
I'm starting to collect parts for my '75 C10 street/strip truck build. It's going to be an LQ4-4L80E, but I'm undecided between a 12 bolt or a 14 bolt. Is the extra strength worth the weight?

Probably best bet nowadays is a K5 blazer, C10, C15, etc. They used them until the late 80s I believe. Otherwise full size cars from the 60s to early 70s.
I am not overly familiar with 12 bolts, but I know 14 bolts very well and know how much of an anchor in a street car/truck they would be.
I don't think I have seen anybody here run a 14 bolt and there are lots of people here pushing some serious power.

Well I doubt I would ever be pushing what anyone would call "serious power". Maybe 800hp at the most. I didn't even consider a 10 bolt, as I have had bad luck with them in the past. From what you've described, a 12 bolt should be all I ever need, and should be pretty easy to find.

A 75 C10 should have a 12 bolt rear in it already. Truck 12 bolt and car 12 bolt are a bit different but it's a 12 bolt none the less. The pinion shaft is smaller in diameter is one of the main differences.
If I were going to the trouble of changing the rear end I'd just put a 8.5" 10 bolt out of a later model truck.
