Rear end troubles

Rear end troubles
So I have a 98 Trans Am. We're running 15 inch race star wheels with the stock brake calipers and disks. When we had the original rear end in the car we didn't have any trouble with the calipers scarring the inside of the rim, but we switched to a built ford 9 inch rear end and all of a sudden we don't have the clearance and it scarred the rim. We are still running the stock calipers and disks though. Shouldn't the clearance be the same between the 2 rear ends or is there something that would be different? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We already ground the caliper so it would clear, I just wanted to know what would cause this problem.

Well, you would think clearance would stay the same, but actually it could move. Not so much out (bigger) towards the rim but front to rear on the wheel. This is an issue sometimes because the barrel of the wheel is often curved or tapered as you get closer to the front of it. A slight shift in the caliper could cause rubbing, and a new rear end could cause a slight shift in the caliper.
