What is a u joint and a yoke?

what are they and what are the differences between the two?

i promise im not dumb, just not knowledgeable on this topic and NEED to know for my 80e swap in my 1500 chevy

heres my best crack at explaning it for you:

u joint is a universal joint - its a 4 way union/connector with rotating caps on bearings on all 4 posts between rotating driveline components , typically one at the front of the driveshaft and one at the rear of the driveshaft.

The yoke is what the universal joint attaches to at both ends

flow chart front of vehicle to rear:

transmission>yoke>u joint>driveshaft>u joint>yoke>rear end
