when It gets tightened to 3-6 it feels as if there is a little binding, in a small area idk if that is normal, that's why I've restrained from 3-6. when it gets to 6-10 that binding feel goes away. I'll see if i can get a good pattern. I also contacted the seller of the gears and he responded with the following.
"You would want to set the backlash at 6-10 thousandths on these gears. This is really the backlash setting that we use for all GM 8.5" 10-Bolt Rearends, regardless of the gears." staticz2229 BRYDON

I would tend to agree with that. Getting them too tight doesnt allow for proper lubrication. I generally try to get to the lower end, if its 7 to 9 I shoot for 6 or 7. Never had an issue doing it that way.

Decreased depth by .002 BL is not exactly 4-6, Now does it look maybe a tad shallow to you? Made 4 passes in reverse and forward while applying pressure with a prybar to the ring gear to wipe all the compound.

My drive and coast generally always look like your drive. I just cant get over that shape. Seems funky. Ive never seen one throw a pattern like that so Im at a loss. I like the drive side though.

I know, the coast doesn't matter what I do, it just looks ugly, the drive looks more like it. I might play with it a bit more, if the coast keep looking the same I think I will go with it.

Rather than starting a new thread I rather keep this one alive, I haven't assembled my axle yet. I found a semi used gear set around that my buddy had kept around. He told me it only had 60 previous miles, so I got it for free he, said it had some minor whine, but I took them anyways. It looks as if he set it up too shallow based on what the contact looked like. I got to say 5 cut gears seem way easier to toy around with.
I toyed with them in my old carriers for the lols since I cant seem to make my new gears work, If you guys think the pattern looks better than my new gears then I will just use the used gear set and transfer it to my new carrier.
I increased the pinion shim. It had a .029 I increased it to .033 I ran a pattern with the shim it came with and it came out shallow. Would you guys run this or no?
Here its the shim it came with
Here I increased .029 to .033 I had to apply a lot of load to the carrier to try to make it spit a well printed pattern.
Backlash is 8, I got to say that this gear set's pattern even though its used, looks way better than what my new one looked like.

Yeah, I dont know if its the set I got or what, but the 2 cut gears from USA standard just wouldn't get a decent pattern for the love of god, Now is it me or are 5 cut easier to set up? I think I just got the boogey man of gears.

Just an fyi... The pattern is gonna look different between the 2 cut and 5 cut gears.
