Mechanically it'll work/function,BUT ABS light will be permanently on. The TC rear end has a brake line for each side which can be overcome by 'teeing together' for your one line non-TC rear. BUT you won't be able to overcome the sensor/electrical incompatibility turning the light on. And if the gear ratio is different, the computer would have to be re-programmed to correct speedometer.

Also your 98 would have an Auburn cone clutch posi and the 99 would have a Torsen(torque sensing) posi and acts very differently compared to a conventional posi.

A 2 series reluctor ring is different than a 3 series reluctor ring. The ring gears flange rim is in a different position and a different ring is necessary to be able to actuate the sensor.
They 'tap' ,carefully, off. Putting one on is a little more difficult because of needing to start it evenly.

It's an ABS rear end,not a ABS & Traction Control rear end. Traction Control rear end has the rings on each axle near the brakes.

Sorry to high jack this thread but can you have the ABS INOP light/system removed from the PCM to avoid the lights if you don't care if the ABS is functioning!

There's ways to jump the harness to cancel the lights, or just remove the bulbs from the dash. Back to firstyrls1, when we've had to install new ring gears onto equipment flex plates we've always put the plate in the freezer for a day or two, then heat up the gear a little bit, an oil bath would probably work with the ABS ring since it's not massive, and then they slap on without a lot of fuss.
