Default Advice for an S60 setup

I'm trying to put together a build list for a rear end swap [first time] and by looking over Strange's options, it all seems a bit overwhelming to say the least.
I plan to get the car around 450 or so to the wheels, and its more or less a daily. That being said, I don't think a spool is what I'm looking for... but the complete assemblies they offer seem to just be spools. Will I need to build my own to get a Trac-Lok or Posi? I'm a bit out of my element here, I could really use a little help figuring out exactly what setup I need and all the parts to accompany it

I went with a truetrac in mine when I built it. Acts like a posi but much stronger. Your best bet is to call strange and talk with them about everything you need. Basic run down is a center section, carrier bearings, pinion bearings, pinion spacer/pinion shims, which ever level/grade yoke you want to use, pinion seal, pinion nut, axles with matching splines to your center section and sealed axle bearings. Most of the stuff comes in a kit but some stuff won’t

Or give spohn a call, they are very friendly as well and are a strange dealer. I bought my S60 second hand but have been extremely happy with it. I'd have to dig through the receipts I got to try and figure out what is what in it, but i know it has LT style backing plates, no ABS, 3" shorter per side and 3.55 gears.

Midwest chassis website then configure how you want it/ send in backing plates. ( 2 ove my buddies went with s-trac and love it) . Then go beat the snot out ove it with out a care in the world, at 450 whp. P.s you'll need a different drive shaft.

S-Trac is more than adequate. I'm running an S60 with 35 spline axles and its rated at over 1000 ft lbs tq which is overkill for what your doing. Give Strange Engineering a call!

You can order it with a posi. I ordered mine with an strac and 35 spline axles completely assembled. Great rear end. You’ll love it.

I have an S-60 S-Trac 35 Spline and it is quiet and works flawlessly. I love it. Excellent and reliable. I service it periodically to keep it fresh. I can tell you, from experience, that my rear end takes a damn beating and it is perfect. I have the 3.73 gears and I love highway cruising. Also, my procharger compliments it well. Go S-Trac and don't ever look back. They have been proven many times over. Like any other rear end, proper break in is a must for long term reliability.

Additionally, MWC built it for me and they have superb customer service. It was a pleasure dealing with them.

Thanks, guys! Definitely sounds like an S-Trac is what I need, I'm glad to hear I can order one built without having to build it. Not that I'd mind to, but I don't have to free time I had when I was a teenager. It'd take me months to get everything together, haha.

Here is a simplified break down to ordering a Strange S60.

https://midwestchassis.com/products/...-mounts-prsf05

If the vehicle is 3ch equipped and you want to keep it then select that option or if it is 4ch equipped and you want to keep that option choose yes. If you are 4ch equipped and do not want to reuse your factory reluctor wheels then choose to purchase new ones or you can send your factory ones in with your backing plates.

I will add that when sending in backing plates this is the time to clean them up and paint or powder coat them as they get mounted to the housing in the same condition you send them in. You do not need to send in your caliper hardware, sensors, nor e-brake components as it is more to come up missing when they have to disassemble for axle assembly. So just send in the backing plates, tin shields, and the one bolt that holds the two together.

Anymore questions feel free to ask away.

I forgot to add that with the purchase of an S60 we offer a 10% discount on rear suspension. Which includes Lower Control Arms, Panhard Bar,Torque Arm, Watts Link, and Anti Rollbar.

Ah, thank you so much! Its good to have the heads up about the reluctor rings, too. I'm going to be doing some experimenting with replacement ones and I'm glad to hear I can just send those in with the backing plates if they end up working

Depends on how you plan to use the car...

A spool on the street can be tough is it's a daily or plans of corner carving.

I went with a spool and 35 splines in my 12 bolt. I do a little street driving to cruise-ins and shows.
Parking can be a chore if a tight space. (no power steering)
I'm also in the range of 450 (+/-) going off ET/MPH/Weight, so 35's were a bit overkill, so it should be close to bulletproof….for now.

Thanks again, Midwest, definitely cleared up a lot!

Doug, that's what I was thinking, man. It'd be more of a daily than it would be a strip car, so I'm thinking the S-trac will be perfect A track car would be a different story, haha.
