10 bolt problem...

10 bolt problem... I bought a 3.42 10 bolt out of an ls1 fbody about a month ago, and I havent installed it yet because Im not that far on my project. When I bought it it seemed fine, spun nicely, and the gears were in good condition. A couple weeks ago, I just happened to spin it, and it was stuck, then it spun, then it stuck, then it spun...then it would spin a couple revs OK then it would stick again. It spins in reverse fine. Theres no oil in it and i have the cover off so I can check it out, but I didnt see anything abnormal in the gears, just that it sticks. I think its more towards the u joint, but im not sure what could be causing that. Any body know why its doing this, or what I can do to fix it.
