SLP Rear Cover

SLP Rear Cover I just bought a SLP (AAM) rear differential cover. Can I just install the cover without taking the gears out,etc. and doing the grinding? You almost have to take the complete rear end apart.

I installed the cover and had to take it off because of a leak. SLP did a bad job of installing the drain plug. I thought I had a crack but it was leaking aroung the drain plug. I had to place two o-rings on the plug and them sealed aroung the plug with red RTV. I hope it does not leak after it gets hot.

I have it on mine as well....no problems here. The only reason for grinding the carrying case is to take full advantage of the cooling fins on the cover...it isn't necessary, though...I only wanted it to add some strength the the rear-end and didn't like the TA cover's price tag.

I just had some gears installed Friday, and I replaced my stock cover with an AAM cover.
I too am having problems with some slight seepage around the drain plug. I may use some teflon tape to try to seal it.
Not too happy considering it costs $100.

it seems its a common problem with aftermarket covers.easily fixed with teflon tape.
