Help with 9 inch So I got all my stuff for the 9 inch swap. One strange axle is like a half inch too long once installed into the third member. Plenty of spline length on it. Can I cut the required amount off the end of the axle and file taper the end of the shaft? Has anyone done this?
Yes. I used my chop saw with a metal blade. I sprayed it with water every 5-10 seconds while cutting to keep temps down. It'll take a while to cut. I think it took an honest 20 minutes to cut one of my 35 spline axles. Key here is to keep the axle locked in and level. The blade can walk too so keep an eye on the cut as you go. Take your time.
