12 bolt w/spool conversion

Default 12 bolt w/spool conversion

My T/A currently has a Strange 12 bolt with spool and 4:10 gears. I've been considering swapping out the spool for a posi unit to help with day to day driveability. I don't race it or anything, really just cruising around town. Is this something that's pretty straightforward parts wise? I'm not too familiar with the setups on the rear ends.

Also, I get alot of rear end whine, which from what i've read is contributed by 12 bolts in general. Would going to a posi unit with 3:73 gears help tone down the whine at all? Wasn't sure if spools contribute to that or not.

Any advice is appreciated

i have a 12 bolt. Had a posi. It was quiet. Went to a spool. Still quiet. Changed again due to axle spline issue, still quiet.
All comes down to who sets up the gears.

So I hadn't realized that my torque arm is trans mounted. I'm going to switch to a tunnel mount and see how that helps on sound.
