Default Broken Wavetrac

I've had a Moser 9 with a Wavetrac in my car for 5 yrs. Roughly 5-6000 miles on it driving on the street. I've made exactly 10 passes on it at the track. This weekend on my 3rd pass I launched and it spun the hell out of the right wheel but the left wheel didn't really move. Let off and went down the track. When I made the turn onto the return road I heard a loud "clunk" sound. Checked everything under it and all looked fine. Drove it home no issues. When we put it on the lift I left it in Park and spinning the right wheel forward the left wheel was spinning backwards. Which obviously it should be locked. Talked to Bob at Brutespeed and he said it certainly sounds like the Wavetrac broke. Which is shocking to me. My car is an Auto making 412hp at the wheels. Yes I know anything can happen. But damn I'm disappointed.

Here is my choice. Bob gave me the number to get the Wavetrac repaired. It has a lifetime warranty. I get it repaired and have it put back in? Or put in a different differential? I am really reluctant to put back in that Wavetrac. I may at some point put on a blower. That makes me even more leery to put it back in. What other options would you guys recommend if I do change it out? TIA

Honestly, I would definitely have it repaired......if it's free. Even if you decide to go a new route you can sell it.

I'm still quite shocked at a wavetrac breaking.............I have a stock 10 bolt with much more power than 412rwhp and it's behind a built t56..............Granted, I know it will blow up sooner or later and I'm planning on a MWC Ford 9 inch. Even a stock 10 bolt and its torsen often survives that amount of power behind an auto. Especially with the mileage and driving conditions you've described.

Wonder what happened. I have seen many wavetracs holding 1000 plus hp, one around 1300hp. I saw one with 450hp break because of a bad axle. Keep us posted. Would like to see any pics of the internals that gave way.

I too suggest getting it repaired. It might have been a fluke. I've never heard of a wave-trac breaking.
But my sons tru-trac broke both side gears and I had to buy a new one. I called eaton to try and buy just the gears, They don't sell parts for them. Just the whole unit. They guy claimed that 550rwhp shouldn't have broke it. Well, it did on the first good launch on the track. Never even got to make a pass.
It's in a Moser 12 bolt in an 01 camaro. I'm rebuilding and selling it. going 9"

Seen quite a few trutrac take a dump. They are made in chinka. Aside from bad engineering and multiple revisions on the unit I commonly use from time to time in builds.. I'd never consider a 9 unless I needed brute strength and gear ratio choices. Just the additional weight and room taken doesn't sit well with me. Moser 12 bolt should be able to handle quite a bit assuming its built correctly.

I went through that phase with my f body, hoping my 10 bolt Corp axle would break so I could get a 9 myself. Could never break it...
