Default 8.8 Diff Cover Question

I have a 8.8 axle for the car and running a Fays 2 watts link. I want to run a girdle style diff cover for the the extra support. I am looking for a cover that will fit using the Fays 2 watts, I bought a standard type girdle and looks like the depth of it will hit the watts.

I am looking for a diff cover depth that will be shorter than what I have currently, which is 4.5 inches. If anyone knows of a shorter depth girdle style cover please let me know?

Currently I am putting 500 HP and 492 ftlb torque to the wheels through a M6 transmission. The car is primarily used for Auto-x and Pro Solo type racing with occasional track days (road course). With this being said, would a standard stamped steel type diff cover be enough if I can't get a girdle sytle cover to work?

Thanks!

Well you stated it yourself, if you can't get one to work a standard steel will have to do.
Stamped steel covers are very strong, an aluminum girdle cover is brittle and crack at the slightest impact.
I don't think the factories would be using the steel covers all these years if they thought they weren't strong enough.

I know the stamped steel will work, just wanted to have the extra protection of being able to apply pressure to the main bearing caps to keep everything in check. I just wasn't sure how much stress the axle caps see with the racing that I do.

Maybe the Ford Racing IRS cover and make a bracket to mount the links to the IRS tang? M-4033-G3 That's the one I'll get if I ever bust the stock one in my Thunderbird.

I am running the GT500 finned cover on my 8.8 with an MWC Watts Link, and it clears, has functional cooling fins, fill/drain plugs and a port for temp sensor. It doesn't put preload on the caps but I am also putting around 500rwhp through it without any problems so far.

I have this one on a ‘95 Mustang with the 8.8”. It’s strong, has some fins and it has a fill and drain plug. The best part is that it’s only $65. Or you can DIY it because it’s an OEM Ford Explorer differential cover with the “wings” cut off of the sides. I realize you’re looking for a girdle style, but I can’t imagine a girdle saving a rear end that was gonna go, but maybe so.
