Default 373 gears

I'm having my 373's gears put in next week. I've read on this forum that a lot of people don't like the 373's and stated that the 273 was just as fast. Is this true?

I am not sure where you have read that... 3.73's are a lot quicker than 2.73's to my knowledge.

You will definitely feel the difference from 2.73 to 3.73. And you will need a tuner(Edit or HP) to change speedo to be accurate.

Gas mileage will suffer...and the rpms will be much higher at 65-70 mph.

Get a converter if you don't already have one (no offense but I probably would have spent the money on a higher stall TQ instead of the Fast Intake ... a higher stall tq will most always drop your ET).

BTW...lesson learned...I threw away $700 (parts and labor) by installing an Meziere electric water pump...4-5 hp at the most.

A set of $300 ET streets would have dropped my ET more than the electric water pump. But it sure does run nice and cool in the summer...(never gets over 180).

what people are talking about is that if you do alot of street raceing on street tires then you will be better off with the 2.73s to keep the spinning down. with 3.73s, stall, and street tires, you will more then likely end up in a ditch. but eather way, on the track with tires, 3.73s will shave off some time.

373s are cool, but 342 woulda been better IMO. especially with a converter 323/342 are niiice for a 3600 stall

I have heard people say that with a big stall the gains from a gear swap is not that great. With 2.73s I don't shift into third till about 90mph. I think i am just going to stay with my gears until i change the rear. They really don't bother me at all because most of my driving is on the highway, and they at least give me a better chance of hooking up with my converter.
