Default From 273 to 373

The shop putting my 373 rear end said they need to buy an other part that costs about $300 but I can't remember the name of it. They said I need it because I have a 273 and it's a big jump to a 373. What is it?

I went from 2.73's to 3.73's and didn't need anything except for a install kit. This included new bearings, crush sleeve, seals, gasket and gear marking compound. This was only About 100. Something special?!!!! Sounds like bullsh*?. post or PM me to let me know what they say it is. I can tell you if they're trying to scam you or something. If you're trying to change from 2-series to a 3-series gears they might be trying to sell you a new carrier.

Yes you do need a new carrier when switching from 2.73's to 3.73's. Ofcourse, you can go the cheaper route by getting the gears (made for 2 series carriers) with the thicker ring gear to accomodate for the 2 series carrier but there's reliability issues with that route and also heavier. The best is to go with the 3 series carrier. If you don't wanna spend 300, check SLP, they usually have t/o diffs for about 100 (what I've got right now)

You're right. I talked to the shop today and they said I did need a new carrier. I'll be getting the car back tomorrow. They're also dyno tuning it so I should be feeling some good power tomorrow.
