Problem When Installing A 4.10 Gear

I just installed a motive 4.10 gear in my 10 bolt. When installing the pinion shaft block into the pinion ,

I noticed that the ring gear was wider than the 3.42 ring gear. This caused the pinion block not to go in straight and was binding against the ring gear. Should I grind on the pinion block shaft to get clearence or tap on the pinion block and take a risk on damaging the teeth on the ring gear.

grind the top edge of the ring gear teeth to get the room you need. I use a carbide burr and just go slow and take off only what you need to get the shaft in.

Yea too much and the c-clip will fall out and so will your axle!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. I shaved a hair off the ring gear, just enough to get the pinion shaft block in and out.I thought about that before but I just wanted to know you guys did it before I made a mistake.
