When the rear end dies... Hey, all...
I'm over 400 rwhp/380 rwtq on my '98 TA M6 with the *stock* rear end (with a TA cover) and 315 Nitto 555r. What's going to happen (specifically) when I break it on a hard street launch?
Along that discussion line, when it does break, I'm switching to 3.73 gears and retaining ABS. Which rear end upgrade is most trouble-free? No clunking, grinding or other problems, etc... just a smooth, no tricks install and dependable operation to maybe 500 rwhp level.
Opinions are most appreciated,

It happened to me but I was not doing a hard street launch(same tires). I just hit second with a great shift at wot. Maybe too good of a shift. I think the deal was the 4 people in the car. I wont try that again. I sheared the gears which is common. I had the rearend fixed under warranty and it was about 1000. I think I could have had it done much cheaper if I had not used the warranty and gone elsewhere. The problem came after. 3 pinions seals leaked because it should have had the crush collar replaced as well. I picked up a bad vibration because the drive shaft was damaged at the same time. I had the drive shaft balanced and it never got better. I had them tear down the rearend twice. After going elsewhere a good mechanic said he thought the driveshaft was twisted. I bought a new LPE driveshaft and I back to where I was before. It rides nice again. I learned alot.
I snapped an axle in my old 10 bolt at the track running on BFG DRs. I did make a total of 24 passes on that 10 bolt before it croaked though.
