9" setup info?
9" setup info? I'm switching from a posi to a locker, anyone have any info on things like bearing preload, lash, what oil, etc & how to do it? I wont be removing the pinion so I assume pinion depth will not be an issue as long as it's correct to begin with. I have the locker & a setup kit from Moser. Any help is appreciated.

I have the whole thing dissassembled now, except getting the ring gear off the the posi unit, looks like the locker is thinner in the gear seat area than the posi. My air wrench doesn't have the ***** to undo the ring gear bolts so I'm unable to tell right now if the bolts with the new setup kit are shorter to accomdate the locker. Have to go to my shop (work) for the tools (press, spanners, etc) to finish the ring gear swap to the to locker.

The 9" uses 2 different ring gear bolts. The factory style Posi has a bolt with a shoulder and smaller head. The locker I believe uses the regular open style bolt. You should set your backlash close to what it had before to prevent noise, but it should be in the .008-.012" range. Set the beacklash with the spanners until there is no slack in the bearings and you have the desired amount, then turn each spanner in about 2 notches and check preload. It should have a small amount of resistance. Lock tite the ring gear bolts and the spanner lock tab bolts.
