btw, here's the plan. I need the open carrier to run a lock right locker(replaces the spider gears and the 4wd guys claim they're tough as all hell) add moser axles and a girdle and I'm thinking it should be able to hold up to slicks and a 150 hit. total price is way cheaper than a 12 bolt too. any thoughts?
It wouldnt be that hard, but they are not tough at all. The main weaknesses of the stock rear are the gears themselves and the diff case, and you will be reusing both. All they are good for is to convert an open diff to locker cheaply, but it would not hold up well to sticky tires and a 150 shot for long. In straight line acceleration the gears and diff case and pin take most of the stress, and all of that would still be stock.
