Default keep 3.42 or switch to 4.10

Im getting ready to get into my rearend for noise. I belive its just a bearing noise but regardless im going to have it rebuilt. For a little extra cash should I upgarde to 4:10 or keep the 3.42 set up? Its a 2000 Z28 M6, few bolt on mods only. I dont care if gas milage goes down some, this is my toy, but it really should wake the car up.

Also Richmand gears sometimes have a tendency to make a whine nosie, what gears are you guys all using and whats the best place to get them? thanks for the help

Texas speed and performance has the gears, install kid, girdle, oil and the limites slip additive for 400 bucks. I got that and I get little to no whine with my motive gears. I have 4.10's and an M6.

If you've still got a stock 10 bolt rear, I don't think a 3.90 is available. Yes, 4.10's will really wake your car up, but they'll also be the weak point of the rear, especially the little ring gear. I had 4.10's live for 65 1/4 mile passes in a stock 10 bolt w/just a T/A cover and studbolt kit, but they were howling like a scalded dog at the end. Got them out of there before it blew, though... I have Richmond 3.73s. They do whine, but are strong. Had 'em for 40k miles...no track time though. I would go with 3.42 due to cabin noise at interstate speeds, but thats because I am on the interstate quite a bit. Hope this helps.

At first I didn't like my 4.10s and thought about going back to 3.42s but everyone said you car will feel so much slower with the 3.42s coming from a 4.10. I stuck with them and love the 4.10s now. I can actually use 6th gear now other than the highway. The only time I don't like them is on the highway I would like to be able to drop in it 3rd at 65-70 but with 4.10s I have to drop it in 4th. Your MPG will only drop by about 1or 2 MPG nothing major. I would say get them it's huge SOTP difference.
