Default Stock 10 bolt question

i have read a few post saying that the 10 bolts flex and that is what is mostly breakin them is this true? i thought it was mostly the ring and pinion being to small. also the few posts that i have read there saying to weld the axle tubes on the carrier and that will take a lot of the stress away and stop breaking it. have any of you guys heard of this? if the welding part is true what exactly do i have to do and weld? i know the 10 bolt is the weakest link in the f-body but i just dont have the money right now to get a 9 inch or a 12 bolt sory its so long but any info on this is appreciated

This isn't what you or I want to hear, but I think the ring gear size is too small.
I have heard of people ripping the teeth off of the ring gear. But with the small gear, the carrier and axles would have less room to be larger as well. The flexing will hurt all of the internals.

Oh, yeah

Get an extra job and save up 3K for the 12 bolt or 9 inch.

Yeah, I should talk.

Yup there notorious for housing flex, usually the flex is what snaps the spline side of the axleshaft off or binds the carrier causing it to torque up and "walk" and this can cause gear failure as well (girdles help this also).

also the few posts that i have read there saying to weld the axle tubes on the carrier and that will take a lot of the stress away and stop breaking it. have any of you guys heard of this? if the welding part is true what exactly do i have to do and weld?
The housing tubes where they meet the centersection, you'll notice there tach welded on, you need to run a solid bead all the way around the tube, but to completely be rid of flex you'll need to truss it.

Depending on your setup you may get away for a good while with beefing up the 10 bolt, if you scroll a few posts down to "rear end breaks" I went in depth with what you can do to help it live. I've heard a few hero stories and see first hand of them holding up to hard conditions with this setup.
