Pro Gears overkill?? Hey Guys,
I am in the process of building a 9 inch and was curious what you guys would recommend for gears. Do you think pro gears (35 spline pinion) are overkill for a M6 that will probably never see any more that 500hp (in the future), or do you think a normal 28 spline pinion would be sufficient?
If it matters I will be using the strange aluminum 3rd member.

For a race car the pro gears are ok, but a street car that will see any miles at all the gears will wear out real fast. Pro gears are made of softer alloy to absorb shock. They get the job done, but not street car friendly.

You can run single digit ET's with a street gear, we have customers that do it regularly with 9" stuff. Your chances of breaking it due to shock load are greater, but they live pretty well. You can drive a pro gear on the street also, but you would be looking at a new gear every year or so depending on driving conditions, highway miles are harder on them.
