3:73 or 3:42

3:73 or 3:42 I have a 98 Z28 A4 w/113K, bolt-ons, TCI3500. I was planning to get AFR205 heads, F13 cam and a TCI3500 verter. But I am not sure what gears do get? whay would work best 3:73 or 3:42. It is mostly used on the street and it is a weekend driver. thanks for your help
Depends on how you drive. 3.73s become tricky to launch on street tires with a converter and big mods, but are a lot of fun from a roll if you stay below 120 mph. 3.42s make for better highway rpms and really are not much slower than 3.73s, despite the SOTP difference.

I got your PM, not sure if my reply made it back.
As I understood it, you have not put your TCI in yet. Once it is in, you may find that you are happy with the 2.73s. The TC will eliminate the sluggishness off the line and help cure the deadspot on the 1-2 shift. For use with street tires, 2.73s and a 3000 - 3500 stall will make a very good combination.
3.42s are not any softer in terms of making it last. 2.73s actually are the strongest of the stock gears.
