Default New guy trying to get traction...

I'm running 16" stock crome rims with the GSC's that break free under any kind of acceleration. First of all, what are pan hard rods, lower control arms and torque arms, and how will upgrading the stock ones help with traction? Plz forgive my ignorance, I'm new to all of this. TIA

Also, my mods are minimal, just y-pipe, lid and filter, and cat-back, so the horsepower is not much more than stock.

Drag radials can really help.

None of the parts you mentioned will help as dramaticallyl unless your car is lowered.

I would have to respectfully disagree with PSJ . If you're doing 4k dumps at the track he is right, tires are #1 for traction. On the street however lower control arms and especially a torque arm are very useful for traciton IMO. My buddy is bogging at 3k clutch dumps on BFG radials with a Random Tech Torque Arm and some Lower Control Arms. Because of the way the Camaro drivetrain is designed, very little lateral load is placed on the control arms but every little bit helps. Panhard bars I don't know too much about but I've also heard that they won't do much for your car unless it's lowered. Hope this helps. ~Tony

I would have to respectfully disagree and say that lower control arms really don't do much, the torque arm can help. I have the RT tq arm too.

I went from 2.05 to 1.90 with drag radials a few years ago with my 98SS M6.

Welcome Donkey!
I have to say that I really love reading all the great post on this board; so much experience that everyone is willing to share.
I have a '99 Hawk, M6, 4.10's, pulley, and some bolt ons. I used to have such poor traction in 1st.& 2nd. gear that I began to dislike driving the car real hard. So, I bought some Metco lower control arms with the relocation brackets and all they did was stop the wheel hop. I still could not control the wheel spin in 1st gear. Then about a week ago I read a real good post here on LS1Tech about drag radials. It seemed that most guys are very happy with the Nitto 555R's. So yesterday I finally bought some for my Hawk and now I have a great car again!!! 1st. is just a little wiggly, but 2nd. is solid. Very little wheel spin between 1st. and 2nd.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, the Nittos are the BEST thing I have ever done to this car. It was hard for me to buy new tires when the stock ones had so much life left in them.

Anyone want a pair of Firehawk 275/40-17's for cheap? They only have 9K miles on them and still have 6/32 tread depth.
