I just did alittle preventative maintenance on my 10 bolt and I used Redline's Heavy Shockproof oil (comprable to about a 75W250). The rear is now dead quiet unlike it used to be. I only have about 100 miles on it but it seems to be working out well.

As long as you use limited slip additive with it I don't see why not. For some reason alot of guys have been straying away from synthetic, not sure of the exact reason. The only reason I went with the shock proof is because it makes a nice cusion between the ring and pinion and will hopefully help save the rear when I hit it hard.

Do NOT use synthetic lube with the Auburn unit, only the Zexal Torson.

How come steve can you explain, is it the way the Auburn grabs the side of the unit?

Clutch and cone style posi units work of of friction. The synthetic fluid changes the way the cones react with the sides of the case, and in some cases makes the not function at all. There will always be somebody who has said they have done it, but it is a bad idea.

"mzoomora" has said it all.

I run the thicker dino 85W140 in my Zexal-Torson because it is MUCH less expensive than synthetic ($8.99 a gallon), and the heavier oil disapates (sp) the heat faster due to thicker molicules (sp). I have 3.73:1 rearend gears.

Did you use the additive with that oil and would you recommend that for a daily driver with a whiney rear?

Techincally since the Torsen is a spider gear set-up you don't need the additive. I had some kicking around so I dumped it in anyway. I have probrably 500-600 miles on the rear and it's still quiet. I'm not sure how it will hold up in the long run but things are looking good for now.

according to GM you should use a 75-90w full synthetic with 4 ounces of limited slip additive, as per the manual.

Thanks for the replies. I just want to quiet down this rear a bit. I plan on getting a 12-bolt this summer but I just can't stand the whine.
