Default PLEASE HELP!!!!

ok, here's the thing..
i bought a converter brand new from Precision Industries. I wanted a vig3200. so i got it put in, and all is well and the car runs really nice. but to play with it, i would hold the brake and stall it up, but it would only go up to about 3100 at the very highest on the tach, and the tires would start to spin. and my tach is on the high side. i thought these converters are supposed to actually spin higher then there rating? so is it possible that i have a vig2800? n/a my 60ft's are 1.7's and that's on e.t. streets. i can't do any better. these tires would not spin at all. even on the juice, it wouldn't flash very high at all when i would launch. is there a way to check it out without having to tear it out of the car? thanks for any advice? anyone have this problem through precision?

Hey Chris, its the other Chris with a 98 Z28. My converter doesn't seem to flash very high either. I did get a 1.62 60 ft on Nittos, so I never really worried about it. I don't think you can find out the stall speed of your converter, even if you took it out and cut it open. It's supposed to have a no. 7 front pump, but there are so many variables like vehicle weight, traction etc. Do you have an ASP pulley? That really seemed to help my 60 ft.

nope, no pulley. i mean i guess i can't complain, i only have the convertor, lid, and exhaust. no headers, no nothing. maybe i don't have enough power to plant it hard enough. hopefully the skinnies and suspension christmas presents will help. we'll see next year. i know these things liked to be flashed, so maybe i'm stalling it up too high. i need a new tach. anyone else got an opinion?

pretty sure that to see the correct stall the trans has to be at a 1:1 ratio (3rd gear).

Sounds like you have a PI 3200. Brake stall is a lot different than full stall. Brake stall has everything to do with how much clamping pressure your brakes have and how much traction your tires have before they break loose. Full stall is when you can put your foot to the floor and read your stall. If you can do that and all you get is 3100, then you have a PI 2800. If you stall 3100 with 1/2 throttle, then I would expect your full stall to be quite a bit higher.

thanks patrick. i'm a little more relaxed about it now from reading your post as well as the others. i guess it doesn't matter anyways since i want to go up in stall speed. guess i was suffering from the dreaded "hsould have gotten more" syndrome.

I can only footstall my vig 3200 up to about 2500 before it overcomes the brakes. It flashes to about 4000 these days, though.
