Default Identifying gears

First off, the car (2002 Z28 M6) is still under warranty and I have not added any peformance upgrades whatsoever to the vehicle. For the past few weeks I have come to suspect that the vehicle does not have stock gearing. According to the gear calculator on f-body.org I should be able to do 55mph at 6600RPM in 1st, however I hit the rev limiter just before 50 (I am going about 45 at 6000). Second is when I topped out fourth, I happened to glance at the speedometer (which was about at 130 or so) and about 1 to 1.5 seconds later I hit the rev limiter and then shut down. The same gear calculator says I should have been going 147MPH, but at the rate I was accelerating I don't see how I could have picked up that much speed in that short of time. So my question is at what speed does your 1st gear top out (those of you with 3.42s) because I suspect that the calculator may be off? Thanks.

Put the transmission in 4th and go 75mph. Look at the tach and that will be your ratio. Example: If you are 3730 rpm's then, you have 3.73's.

Well it is between 3400 and 3500 so I assume that I have the stock gearing...but that doesn't explain why 1st gear runs out so quickly. Any ideas?

But does that explain why I hit the rev limiter even before I get to 50? Does the rev limiter run off of what the gauge says? I figured it used the sending unit.

The stock tach is inaccurate, especially in the higher range. The rev limiter doesn't look at a the guage, looks at the PCM settings.

The rev limiter is set to 6200 rpm. If you have 3.42's and hit the rev limiter, in 1st, your speed would be 50mph. At 6,000 rpm in 2nd, you would be at 75mph.
